How Powerful Should a Gaming Laptop Be?

A gaming laptop or gaming PC is specially designed at a very high standards video for playing video games. Gaming laptops are just like standards or business computer but it is more upgraded with many features which makes the difference.

Gamers usually prefer cool gaming looks, so nowadays gaming laptops are mostly decorated with bright colors.

The main contrasts between Gaming and normal laptops are processor, display, hardware functions, speed, graphics, and memory.

Now, let us discuss the characteristics of a gaming laptop.

Characteristics of a Gaming Laptop

1. Operating System:

The operating system or OS is important because all games or the console of the games are not meant for all operating systems. So, it is always advisable to check the system requirements before buying or downloading the game.

There is no such thing as frustrating as wasting time on buying or downloading a game and not being able to play.

It is preferred to use the most upgraded or updated OS for a better experience.

2. Graphics Card:

The graphics card or the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) is one the most prominent characterization of gaming laptops. The graphics processing unit mainly emphasizes the graphics setting.

The higher the capacity of the graphics card the higher the graphics setting, i.e. it will help you to enable more visual effects, along with a great gaming experience. The GPU process the data, and then it transmits it to the monitor, this is how the images are delivered to the screen.

Most people think that the more graphics card the experience will be better, but then the reality is the GPU is mostly dependent on the requirements of the game.

For example, if the game needs 4 GB of V-RAM (V-RAM is the memory stored for the graphics unit, commonly known as video memory), and if you use 6 GB of a graphics card, it would not surpass your experience.

So always check the system requirements of the games before investing more resources in your system.

It is always recommended to use the most upgraded version of the graphics card.

3. Processor:

The processor is the most important characteristic of all. The processor is so important because it is needed for the run and execution of every task performed by the system.

When we run any gaming software, it usually needs to execute a lot of tasks at the same time as the other software. So it is always recommended to use a powerful and updated processor, for a better experience.

4. Memory(RAM):

RAM mostly affects the performance, speed, and FPS (Frame per Second). But, mostly the performance varies from game to game. It is preferred to have 8 GB RAM while starting.

If anyone wants to use the system as multi-tasking like operating a lot of applications or excruciating gamer and a lot of tabs are open in their browsers at the same time. For them, it is preferred to use 16 GB RAM.

5. Screen Size:

The screen is also an important characteristic as not only for gamers, but everyone tends to experience the visual effects on a bigger screen. So the bigger the screen the more marvelous experience you will have.

But, the problem is that you can’t increase the size of the screen. So the solution is we can connect our laptops with a bigger screen using an HDMI cable. But the performance may get affected due to this. So, you need a strong processor along with this.

6. Cooling Device:

When we run a game or execute a game, it takes a lot of power to run the program. So the machine can get heated up very fast, as a result, it affects the processor and the clock speed.

If the cooling fans and ventilation are not up to par, then it causes system failures and reduces the work capability of the system. It is suggested to use an external cooling device, to improve the cooling of the device.

7. Peripherals:

The most prominent feature of gaming laptops that creates the contrast from the standards is that they can be connected to many peripherals.

We can connect headsets, wireless mouses, gaming keyboards, joysticks, etc. We can also attach microphones and controllers with the system for an ergonomic experience.

8. Touch Screen:

Even some of the laptops have been provided with touch screens. Some games involve multi-controls, so the touch screen provides additional support to the gamer.

9. Screen Resolution:

Resolution or more specifically screen resolution is also one of the important features for gaming devices. The minimum resolution need for gaming is 1920 X 1080, if we use whatever which is lesser than that, we may experience a bad video quality.

Gaming Laptop Vs. Gaming Desktop

Often gaming laptops are criticized as inferior to desktops. But, now a day gaming laptops are faster than desktops. So, most of the gamers are switching over laptops. Another plus point is that gaming laptops are that it is portable.

The gaming laptops are smaller compared to desktops. As a result, the internal components are less advanced and more expensive than the desktops. Another problem with laptops is that they are very difficult to upgrade, while desktops can be upgraded very easily.

Now, let us discuss the pros and the cons of a gaming laptop-

Pros:

1. High Speed:

When any gaming software run or executes, the CPU has to perform a lot of tasks simultaneously. If the system doesn’t run fast, then you will lag from the other opponents. So, the gaming laptops are designed and manufactured to provide you with high speed.

2. Memory (RAM):

While using the system as a multitasking device, i.e. performing a lot of tasks simultaneously. At that time the RAM helps us to switch from one to another. RAM stores the frequently used apps.

So, the more the RAM the more we can store the data and instruction of those frequently used apps. As a result, it helps the system to run faster and work more efficiently. Thus the in-built RAM of the gaming laptop is much greater than the usual ones.

3. Sound:

The audio takes a great part in a game. So, the in-built speakers of the gaming laptops are much better than the usual ones. But, it is always recommended to use the headset for a more ergonomic experience.

4. Graphics:

The most important feature that attracts a gamer is the visual effect of the game. So, if the graphical unit of the system is not good, then it would not able to attract gamers.

Thus, the gaming laptops are designed to provide you with high-definition picture quality and contribute a greater amount of V-RAM.

5. Durability:

The gaming laptops are manufactured to be more imperishable and durable than the usual ones. That means these systems will last longer.

6. Upgradeable Parts:

These systems have the advantage of up-gradation of their parts. Most of the gaming laptop’s parts like processor, RAM, the graphics card can be upgraded, while the normal laptops cannot. That means the user does not need to change the system.

They can just simply replace the updated parts. But, not all models give you the freedom to do so. So, it is better to check the parts that can be upgraded, before you buy the device.

Cons

1. Battery Life:

These kinds of laptops do not provide you with much battery life as the usual ones. You always need to be near a power source while playing games. After sometimes the battery loses its work efficiency.

2. Weight:

The gaming laptops are usually heavier than normal laptops. It is a huge drawback of these devices as they are very uneasy to carry. As when you carry make sure your laptop bag can carry such amount of load. These can be heavier if there is an extra cooling fan.

3. Performance:

These systems can never provide you with the performance and work efficiency such as a desktop. There will always be a load of performance in laptops than on a desktop.

Also, you can easily upgrade the parts of a desktop, whereas in laptops it is very difficult to upgrade, and in some devices, you cannot upgrade any of the parts.

4. Cooling Device:

This is the most important disadvantage of gaming laptops. Most of the laptops do not even provide with extra port for another cooling fan. You will need an external fan to cool down your device.

5. Extra Costs:

There will be some extra expenditures while using a gaming laptop like an extra gaming specialist mouse, and keyboard. Not only the mouse and keyboard but there will also be some additional expenses like peripherals and accessories for a greater ergonomic gaming experience.

Conclusion

The gaming laptops are very powerful than the normal ones. They are also more powerful than the standard or business ones. These systems have a good and upgraded processor, high-definition graphics, a large amount of RAM, and mass storage devices.

These systems also provide us with great audio quality, screen size, and resolution. This also provides good cooling fans. But, it is always recommended to use a desktop for playing games as they provide us with more prominent working efficiency and flexibility.

There are more pros for desktops than laptops in we talk about games.
